Civizen is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have.
Who we are
Civizen is an independent web application that helps people prepare for the US naturalization civics test. We are not affiliated with USCIS or any US government agency.

What information we collect
Information you give us directly
When you create an account, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your password (stored as a secure hash — we never store your password in plain text)
When you upgrade to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your credit card number, billing address, or any other payment details. Stripe handles all payment data directly and securely.
Information we collect automatically
When you use Civizen, we store:
- Study progress — which flashcard questions you've marked as learned, in English and Spanish
- Test attempts — a record of each practice test you take, including your score and the date
- Session data — standard authentication data to keep you logged in across visits
We do not collect your IP address for tracking purposes, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not use third-party analytics tools that track your behavior across other websites.
Information we do not collect
We do not ask for or store your immigration status, your N-400 filing date, your nationality, your address, your phone number, or any other personal information beyond what is listed above.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect only to operate and improve Civizen:
- Email address — to send you account-related emails (welcome email, password reset, Pro upgrade confirmation). We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
- Study progress and test history — to show you your progress on your profile page and help you identify areas that need more practice.
- Payment data (via Stripe) — to verify that your Pro upgrade was successful and update your account accordingly.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to train machine learning models.

Civizen uses a small number of trusted third-party services to operate:

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We share only the minimum information necessary for each service to function.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted by Neon. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms before storage. We use HTTPS for all data transmission.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at ciudadaniatestapp@gmail.com.
Your choices and rights
Access and correction
You can view your account information and study progress at any time on your profile page. If you need to correct information that isn't editable in the app, contact us.
Account deletion
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing ciudadaniatestapp@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
Cookies and sessions
Civizen uses a session cookie to keep you logged in. This cookie is essential for the app to function and does not track you across other websites. No advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies are used.
Children's privacy
Civizen is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may also notify you by email. Continued use of Civizen after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
